RK Hall Inaugural Lecture Tour
The inaugural RK Hall Lecture Tour was held in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Australian Society of Dentistry for Children (ASDC) and the 10th anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry (ANZSPD). Named in honour of Dr Hall’s remarkable contributions, the tour featured Professor Edwina Kidd from Guy’s Hospital, London, an expert in cariology, who delivered lectures across multiple locations. Events took place in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Adelaide, with a main conference in Melbourne, including a two-day program and a tribute from Prof Louise Brearley Messer, celebrating Dr Hall’s achievements.
Subsequent RK Hall Lecture Tours
Following the inaugural event, RK Hall Lecture Tours were held in 2001, 2003, 2008, and 2011. The 2011 tour was a unique, single-location event held in Uluru from 24th to 28th August, organised by the SA Division, and featuring Dr Joel Berg (USA) as the Colgate Keynote speaker.
Transition to the RK Hall Lecture Series
The 2014 lecture series was initially planned as a tour to the Victorian and New Zealand branches. However, following the passing of Dr Alistair Devlin, it was consolidated into a single event in Melbourne to honour his contributions. At this time, the "RK Hall Lecture Tour" was officially renamed the "RK Hall Lecture Series," transitioning to a single-location event format. The 2014 series featured Prof Svante Twetman from Copenhagen and Dr Mike Casas from Toronto.
In 2017, the series took place in Auckland, featuring Dr Ari Kupietzky (Israel), Secretary General of the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry, along with local speakers. The most recent event was held in Perth on 15th-16th March 2019, sponsored by Colgate, with A/Prof Peter Day from Leeds, UK, as the visiting lecturer. Although events planned for 2021-2022 were disrupted due to COVID-19, the series is set to resume, with the next event scheduled for 28-29th March 2025 in Brisbane.
This ninth RK Hall Lecture Series will honour Associate Professor Roger Hall OAM, featuring Dr Nick Lygidakis from Greece as the keynote speaker, supported by local presenters. The RK Hall Lecture Series continues to celebrate Dr Hall’s legacy, fostering excellence and collaboration in paediatric dentistry.
